Cut Down Trees like a Pro

The average chainsaw user only operates their saw from time to time, to cut down a tree or some firewood. Regardless of how and how often you use your saw it's a good idea to learn some of the right techniques to operate a chainsaw safely. There are some very common mistakes that are easily avoided. • Kickbacks occur when the upper part of the saw bar's tip comes in contact with something. The saw is propelled upward and/or backward, in line with the plane of the saw bar. The chain brake is designed to stop the chain in an instant. • Incorrect stance can be a result of excessive respect for the saw. Hold the saw firmly by both handles and close to your body for maximum strength and precision. • Learn how to file the chain. With the right tools and techniques a chain can be filed many times. A sharp chain increases precision, safety and efficiency. There are some other basic tips that should be stressed • Use the correct protective equipment. Always use protective trousers, protective boots, helmet with full visor and hearing protection. • Learn the saw's most important safety features like the chain brake and kickback protection, chain catcher and stop control. Ensure they are operational each time you use the saw. • Practice using the saw, for instance on a log on the ground, while learning how the saw behaves. • When working in the forest, bring first aid, a whistle and a mobile phone. They could save your life. • After you refuel the saw, move it to another location before you start it, to reduce the risk of starting a fire.
